Dr. Tracy McCarthy

Dr. McCarthy received her medical degree from the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine. Prior to that, she completed her undergraduate studies at UC Davis, receiving a B.S in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, with a minor in German.

She completed her internship and psychiatric residency at UC Davis, Department of Psychiatry. She chose to train in psychiatry because of the emphasis on the therapeutic alliance with patients, her interest in the mind, and the recognition within psychiatry of the critical role of our environment and relationships. During residency, through her sister’s health challenges she was introduced to the work of Gary Taubes and later Weston A. Price. She was alarmed to learn how little was taught in medical school about the extensive research on the role of nutrition in health, and the extent to which the medical profession and the public is unaware of this life-changing information.

Dr. McCarthy immersed herself in learning more about nutrition, and while practicing as an attending inpatient psychiatrist she followed her passion and began studying with the Institute for Functional Medicine. Dr. McCarthy is now an IFM Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. She has done additional training, and is ADAPT Framework Level One trained by the Kresser Institute for Functional and Evolutionary Medicine and a member of the Living Proof Institute Mentorship Program.

Dr. McCarthy is passionate about the power of real food, mindset, and community to create health. She is committed to continuing to learn about the latest research and treatments and looks forward to partnering with you to heal.
